T-shirts decorated with condom wrappers resulted in two Illinois teenagers being suspended from school. Cheyenne Bird, 14, and Victoria Shoemaker, 15, said their shirts, which said "Safe Sex or No Sex" were meant as a protest of their Wood River middle school's sex-education curriculum, which teaches abstinence.
But school district officials told KDSK-TV in St. Louis Thursday that the rules are the rules, and the shirts were deemed inappropriate because younger elementary school students share the same hallway as the more-mature middle school kids. "It is in our handbook. It is in our board policy," Superintendent Mark Cappel said.
