Adriana Bertini is the name of the Brazilian artist who transforms imperfect and out of date condoms in wonderful works of art.
Her dresses and her sculptures are exposed at the Museum of World Culture of Gothenburg, in Sweden. A spokesman of the artist affirms: “Adriana Bertini offers to the public a different vision, poetic, of this object which suffers a big prejudice, in spite of it is very necessary nowadays. She succeeds in transforming condoms in something absolutely sensual, full of energy and life”.
The artistic experimentation with condoms starts for the Brazilian artist in 1996 when during a period of voluntary service for an association of assistance for the persons infected by AIDS, Adriana Bertini received 144 out of date condoms. The first exhibition condom based is dated 1997 in São Paulo. Since then her “social art”, as she cares to define it, is known all over the world.
All the proceeds which come from the sale of the works and the dresses are donated in fact to fund social projects. "The aim is also to help who comes to my exhibitions to face up to matters as sex, prevention, Aids, getting over taboos and reserves still very rooted.” explains Adriana Bertini, who hopes to begin soon her artistic experimentation with other “non-conventional” materials.
